IT Infrastructure Engineer

To provide support for all IT infrastructure including servers, networks, telephony and end user devices.

Main Job Summary

To provide support for all IT infrastructure including servers, networks, telephony and end user devices. Including proactive checks and monitoring to ensure the IT infrastructure is secure and operates in line with the Companies security policies and controls. In addition, act as a point of escalation for service desk requests.

Main Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
  • Develops, manages and supports the IT Infrastructure and applications for all users across both sites
  • Assisting in the planning and delivery of projects to upgrade and improve the IT infrastructure
  • Ensure maximum availability of servers and services and quickly react to resolve infrastructure issues
  • Monitoring server and network performance
  • Ensuring compliance with IT related requirements in relation to ISO17025 and the Regulator’s Code of Practice
  • Ensure regular backups of systems are taken successfully and verifying integrity of backup data
  • Support and maintain telephony across the organisation
  • Liaises with software providers to ensure problems are solved correctly and in a timely manner
  • Maintains a central list of software renewal dates and ensures all software is renewed on a timely basis
  • Ensures we are setting and adhering to Security best practices and ensures security of data, network access and backup systems
  • Maintain accurate list of all IT assets
  • Being a point of escalation for the service desk, continuously improving incident management processes, procedures and tools
  • Procuring end user, network and server hardware, peripherals, software & support
  • Mentoring 1st line support staff and providing cover in their absence.

Required Skill Set & Experience:

  • 3 years+ experience in supporting and maintaining IT infrastructures
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and technical knowledge of the following
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 – 2016
    • Microsoft Hyper V or equivalent
    • Active Directory
    • Networking topologies (switches, VLAN trunking etc.)
    • Microsoft Office 365
    • Dell SonicWall Firewalls
    • Mobile Device Management systems
    • Failover and replication
    • Avaya IP Office Telephony
    • Backup software including Backup Exec & Arcserve
  • Monitoring and managing the availability of systems
  • Adaptable, ‘hand-on’ approach and willing to go the extra mile
  • Proven ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal formats at all levels within the organisation
  • Excellent team-player, willing to share workload, knowledge, information and best practices
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and assumes ownership for all tasks undertaken through to conclusion
  • Challenging and curious, constantly seeks process and service improvements
  • An optimistic and positive attitude to change

Education:

Essential

A Levels, BTEC, HND level education

Desirable

Industry qualifications e.g. MCP, MCITP, MCSA, MCSE, CCNA, ITIL

Core Role Competencies:
  • Minimum 5 years UK residency
  • Full driving license
  • Satisfactorily pass pre-hire and annual security clearance procedures in accordance with the ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) National Vetting Scheme
